About Cate:

Cate is an experienced and enthusiastic children’s physiotherapist who works with her clients and their families to achieve their full developmental and participation potential.

Cate’s physiotherapy practice is family-centred, goal-directed and evidence-based. Her therapy focuses on the principles of motor skill learning in a play and activity-based framework. Cate focuses on educating and empowering parents and carers to optimise their child’s development through strategies that carry over into everyday life at home, school, childcare, in play and recreation.

Therapy sessions are conducted in the clinic at Carlton or community settings such as local playgrounds as appropriate to the child’s goals. Telehealth therapy sessions are available when required, including for families living in regional areas.

Cate has many years’ experience working in Children’s hospitals in Melbourne and London, managing children with cerebral palsy, stroke, acquired brain injury, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions, developmental delay and those recovering from injury and surgery.

She holds specialist skills in infant assessment, neurology and rehabilitation. Cate has a broad network of professional connections among Australian therapists and medical specialists. She values working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team for the optimal care and management of her clients.

Cate was a Senior Clinician Physiotherapist with the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (VPRS) at Monash Children’s Hospital from 2007 to 2020. Prior to this she worked in general paediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Units in London and Melbourne. Cate’s early career experience was in regional Victoria. While working with the VPRS, she held concurrent Clinical Research Assessor roles with the Preterm Brain Outcomes (PREBO) study and Pain In Dyskinesia study. She was a key physiotherapist contributor to the Subacute Rehabilitation of Childhood Stroke Clinical Guideline, 2019.

Cate works as a Tutor with Monash University, teaching Postgraduate Paediatric Physiotherapy courses. She is an Advanced Assessor in Prechtl’s General Movements Assessment, used to identify children at risk of cerebral palsy.

Cate is a Victorian Trainer of the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) through the Australasian Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials Network (Aus CP-CTN). She enjoys supporting and mentoring physiotherapy colleagues in their paediatric and neurological speciality skills development, both here in Australia and overseas.
